Aing Sereyrath – Mekong Conservation Hero

Aing Sereyrath is a Co-Founder and Project Coordinator for the Young Eco Ambassadors

Walking in the forest, traveling by boat, meeting with communities, learning from researchers, and meeting with environmental activists have all led me to where I am today. My most memorable experience that led me to be so engaged in conservation was a field trip to learn about the forest and biodiversity in Mondulkiri, Cambodia, organized by the U.S. Ambassador’s Youth Council. Studying about the problems and trying to understand the issues that communities were facing, as well as learning from other relevant organizations, helped me make up my mind to work to conserve our precious natural heritage.

I am currently working as project coordinator for the Young Eco Ambassadors, focusing on educating and disseminating information about the environment and biodiversity. In particular, I’m working with youth to spread the message of how wonderful the Mekong River is. As a coordinator, I’m in charge of organizing trainings and public events to promote the Mekong and organize trips along the Mekong River. I also try to learn more about the Mekong River, natural resources in various areas, and the connection between local communities and those resources.

What I’m doing is very important to me because I love it. I work with young people to educate them about the value of natural resources in Cambodia. Once they understand, they will do something to change and find solutions to the problems. My favorite part of my work is organizing field trips and guiding youth to see and experience nature and communities directly. I’m inspired by the increasing number of young people who care, love, and are starting to do something to help the environment with innovative ideas.

I want Cambodians to know about the importance of the Mekong River, biodiversity, the forest, and other important ecosystems in Cambodia. I also want them to know about the challenges facing these natural resources, as well as the people who depend on these resources for their livelihoods. I will organize more public events in the future so that more and more people can learn and start asking themselves how they can take part in solving the problems together.

អាំង សិរីរតន៍, អ្នកសម្របសម្រួលគម្រោង, អេកូយុវទូត

ការដើរព្រៃ ការជិះទូក ការជួបសហគមន៍ ការជួបរៀនពីអ្នកសិក្សាស្រាវជ្រាវ និងជួបជាមួយសកម្មជនបរិស្ថាន បាននាំខ្ញុំមកឲ្យកា្លយខ្លួនជាអ្នកអភិរក្ស។ អ្វីដែលខ្ញុំចងចាំជាងគេ ហើយធ្វើឲ្យខ្ញុំសម្រេចចិត្ដ ដាក់តាំងខ្លួនប្រាណ មកធ្វើការងារអភិរក្សនោះ គឺដំណើរទស្សនកិច្ចសិក្សាពីព្រៃឈើ និងជីវចំរុះនៅខេត្ដមណ្ឌលគីរី ដែលដឹកនាំដោយក្រុមប្រឹក្សាយុវជនរបស់ឯកអគ្គរាជទូតសហរដ្ឋអាមេរិច។ ការសិក្សាស្វែងយល់ពីបញ្ហា និងការប្រឈមដែលសហគមន៍កំពុងតែជួបប្រទះ ព្រមទាំងជួបមន្រ្ដីជំនាញពីអង្គការដែលពាក់ព័ន្ធលើការងារអភិរក្ស នៅក្នុងដំណើរទស្សនកិច្ចសិក្សានោះ បានធ្វើឲ្យខ្ញុំកាន់តែច្បាស់ក្នុងចិត្ដថា ខ្ញុំត្រូវតែការពារ អភិរក្សសម្បត្ដិធម្មជាតិរបស់ខ្មែរយើង។

ពេលបច្ចុប្បន្នខ្ញុំជាអ្នកសម្របសម្រួលគម្រោងរបស់អេកូយុវទូត ដែលផ្ដោតលើការអប់រំផ្សព្វផ្សាយអំពីបរិស្ថាន និងជីវចំរុះទៅដល់យុវជន។ ប្រធានបទដែលខ្ញុំកំពុងតែធ្វើការផ្សព្វផ្សាយនោះគឺ អច្ឆរិយភាពនៃទន្លេមេគង្គ។ នៅក្នុងគម្រោងនេះ ខ្ញុំទទួលខុសត្រូវលើកការងាររៀបចំវគ្គបណ្ដុះបណ្ដាល និងដំណើរទស្សនកិច្ចសិក្សាតាមដងទន្លេមេគង្គ ព្រមទាំងការផ្សព្វផ្សាយនៅតាមកម្មវិធីសាធារណៈដែលមានអ្នកទស្សនារាប់ពាន់អ្នកផងដែរ។ បទពិសោធន៍ការងារទាំងនេះបានធ្វើឲ្យខ្ញុំយល់កាន់តែច្រើនពីទន្លេ ព្រមទាំងទំនាក់ទំនងរវាងទន្លេនឹងជីវភាពរស់នៅរបស់ប្រជាពលរដ្ឋ ហើយនេះក៏បានជួយផ្ដល់នូវចំនេះដឹងដ៏ទូលំទូលាយដែលអាចឲ្យខ្ញុំចែករំលែកទៅកាន់យុវជនខ្មែរ។

ខ្ញុំស្រលាញ់ការងារ ដែលអប់រំផ្សព្វផ្សាយយុវជនពីគុណតម្លៃរបស់ធនធានធម្មជាតិនៅក្នុងប្រទេសកម្ពុជាខ្លាំងណាស់។ ជាពិសេសការងាររៀបចំដំណើរទស្សនកិច្ចសិក្សាសម្រាប់យុវជន ដើម្បីបានស្វែងយល់ ព្រមទាំងទទួលបានបទពិសោធន៍ពីធម្មជាតិ និងសហគមន៍។ ការងារទាំងនេះជា សេចក្ដីសង្ឃឹមរបស់ខ្ញុំចំពោះធម្មជាតិ ពីព្រោះខ្ញុំជឿថាបើមានយុវជនកាន់ច្រើនស្រលាញ់ និងយល់ពីទំនាក់ទំនងរវាងយើងនឹងធម្មជាតិ នោះពួកគេនឹងខ្វល់ខ្វាយ ហើយចាប់ផ្ដើមផ្លាស់ប្ដូរ ព្រមទាំងរិះរកនូវដំណោះស្រាយផ្សេងៗដើម្បីបរិស្ថាន តាមរយៈភាពច្នៃប្រឌិតរបស់ពួកគេ។

ខ្ញុំចង់ឲ្យប្រជាជនខ្មែរដឹងពីសារប្រយោជន៍នៃទន្លេមេគង្គ ជីវចំរុះ ព្រៃឈើ និងស្ថានប្រព័ន្ធសំខាន់ៗផ្សេងៗទៀតរបស់ប្រទេសកម្ពុជាយើង។ ខ្ញុំក៏ចង់ឲ្យប្រជាជនខ្មែរជាច្រើនអ្នកទៀតបានដឹងពីកត្ដាគំរាមគំហែងដែលធម្មជាតិ និងមនុស្សដែលពឹងអាស្រ័យលើធនធានធម្មជាតិកំពុងជួបប្រទះផងដែរ ហើយភ្ញាក់ឡើងចូលរួមដោះស្រាយទាំងអស់គ្នា។ ខ្ញុំនឹងរៀបចំកម្មវិធីផ្សព្វផ្សាយបន្ថែមទៀត ដើម្បីឲ្យមានមនុស្សកាន់ច្រើនចូលរួមក្នុងកិច្ចការពារសម្បត្ដិធម្មជាតិរបស់យើង។
