The National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca) authorized the start of the capture of tuna species — yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus), bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus orientalis) and skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) — in Mexican federal waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Since 19 January, Mexican flag purse seiners operating on the high seas and in foreign waters that are in the area of regulation of Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC), that is to say, in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO), can restart to capture tuna.
